The dimension tool should be able to snap to snap guides when placing dimensions (see this discussion for more info).
A common use of the dimension tool is to dimension from the corner of a building to an angled site boundary. Currently, this cannot be done directly in a single dimensioning process because there's no way for the 'Any Direction' dimension option to snap to perpendicular, it can only snap to vertical/horizontal or parallel.
Example - This dimension cannot be achieved in a single action using only the dimension tool (red circles are the associated nodes being used):
We are able to quickly set up temporary snap guides during the dimensioning process that show us the perpendicular connection where we want the dimension to go, however the dimension tool cannot snap to these guides as witnessed in this screenshot:
Can the dimension tool be upgraded to allow this functionality?
