The Morph tool is extremely flexible in 3D modeling, but currently lacks quantitative access to its edge data.
If it were possible to access the length of edges directly, Morphs could become not only geometric objects but also data-aware 3D polylines, opening up a broad range of new applications.
What is needed:
• The ability to list and extract individual edge lengths from a Morph,
• These lengths should be available in Schedules (as a new field),
• Ideally, users could tag, group, or name edges to make their purpose traceable.
Why this matters:
This small addition would enable powerful workflows, such as:
• 3D path quantification: define and measure spatial routes (e.g., for circulation, fire escape distances, or pedestrian flows),
• Crack and damage mapping: trace fissures or surface lines on buildings and compile length and type into schedules,
• 3D annotation and modeling: use Morphs as smart sketching tools with measurable geometry, usable in documentation and data reporting.
Why it’s valuable:
• Unlocks a hidden potential of a tool that’s already geometrically powerful.
• Avoids creating workaround geometry just to measure paths in 3D.
• Blends design freedom with data accessibility—true BIM flexibility with very little implementation effort.
