Dark Mode - Include to Change Background and Grids

Lee Hankins

With the official introduction of Dark Mode on macOS it would be great if the grids and backgrounds could be linked to this too so a colour for both can be chosen and change the background and grid (where the grid is actually turned on) to also change to the selected colours.

Any kind of haXx0r-mode should be able to change all aspects of the UI.

There are advantages of the old school AutoCAD with a black workspace - yes, the workflow and information we need to handle has changed, but it would be nice if we could customise this in the WorkEnvironment as well. Then we could easily shift between mode depending on location , type of work and mood 😎

Autocad has a proper dark mode, although, to be honest, it was always dark mode first. If you change the background to white, white lines become black. There are some infidels that draft with white background. Smite them!

Microsoft Word has a proper dark mode. It reverts the paper color from white to dark gray, and normal text color from black to white.

Archicad has a really half-assed solution here.

Where dark mode should be available:

- palettes, tools: implemented

- drawing board - floor plans, sections, elevations, details, 3D documents, worksheets: not implemented

- schedules, project indexes: not implemented

- lists: implemented

- reports: implemented

Where dark mode is not mandatory, even though there probably are people who would want it even there:

- layouts and master layouts

- 3d (axonometry, perspective view)

Where dark mode "leaks" into interface only to make it look awful, more like a bug than a feature:

- schedules, when editing them:

I mean, what is this? Why is it suddenly showing proper dark mode when editing, but not when not editing?!

How should Graphisoft go about it?

There could be a toggle, for color-sensitive view: switch between dark mode and light mode for the window in question, for example, floor plan.

Dark mode could be very simply achieved by inverting the color palette. It is the most obvious way to fix it, and it would give working results to us, users, with a rather quick fix from Graphisoft's side.

Ideally, in pen sets, for each pen there could be a (new, additional) toggle with the following options:

- invert the pen color it when viewed in dark mode

- leave the pen color as is (red could stay red, for example)

- pick a new color (a dark red could be turned into light red or vice-versa, so it would pop out more)

All three options have no effect on output (publishing, printing...) because they are purely for display. It MUST be clear from the pen set edit dialog that the secondary (dark mode viewing) color is just that - display only color.

There is room in this dialog box on the lower left side.
