Because of all the troubles with those sections we put into formwork plans, I have started putting only section markers on the plan, and put many, many, many sections around the floor plan on the layout. That way, plans are much more readable, but yeah, it's not a "standard" formwork layout as we normally do in Croatia. I haven't had complaints, though.
Something like this:
What I now do, and I didn't do before in AutoCAD, is that I also give out sections through every axis, which is very helpful for other colleagues and on site. For those, I have to compose a layout with three drawings on top of each other: one section just before the wall, one through the axis (and wall), and one after the wall, and then play around with GOs to get the desired effect.
So, you have lightly shaded walls that are placed on the axis, a bit darker ones with dashed outlines that are on the further side (from view) and non-shaded with diagonal hatch that are closer in view. That way it's easier to understand the continuity of concrete (and steel) inside a section through an axis, hopefully.
Of course, those are all workarounds and produce non-standard ("standard" taken very loosely) formwork plans, but I think in the end it doesn't take anything away from the clarity of formwork plans, only packs it with more accessible information.
