Feature Request: Drag-and-Drop Menu Functionality

Hi everyone,

I’m Francisco, an architect at ex-ist , and I’ve been using ArchiCAD as part of my daily workflow for some time now. As a dedicated ArchiCAD SAAS subscriber, I truly appreciate the software’s capabilities and how it supports our architectural processes.

I wanted to share an idea for a potential feature enhancement that could significantly improve workflow efficiency: drag-and-drop menu functionality for creating floating toolbars or palettes. This is inspired by a similar feature in Maxon Cinema4D, where users can drag frequently used commands out of dropdown menus and turn them into floating palettes.

Why This Feature Would Be Useful:

  1. Streamlined Workflow : Repetitive tasks would become much faster if we could access frequently used commands without navigating through dropdown menus every time.
  2. Enhanced Customization : Users could create personalized toolbars on the fly, tailored to their specific workflows.
  3. Modern UI/UX Alignment : Drag-and-drop functionality aligns with contemporary user interface trends and would make ArchiCAD feel even more intuitive.

Currently, while it’s possible to create custom shortcuts or toolbars, the process isn’t as dynamic or flexible as drag-and-drop functionality would be. This feature would be especially beneficial for power users like architects, designers, and BIM managers who rely on specific commands repeatedly throughout their projects.

If this isn’t feasible within the current API framework, I’d love to hear if there are any workarounds or alternative solutions that the community has discovered. Alternatively, I think this could be a fantastic addition to future updates of ArchiCAD.

What do you all think? Has anyone else felt the need for something like this? I’d love to hear your thoughts or any suggestions you might have!

Thanks in advance for considering this idea, and thanks to the ArchiCAD team for continuously improving the software.

Best regards,
Francisco
