Library & Parametric Objects - PVC Doors & Windows

1. Executive Summary

We request Graphisoft to expand the native Archicad Door & Window Library—and localized versions (such as the Dutch library)—with dedicated parametric options, frame geometries, and manufacturer-specific content for PVC / Vinyl window and door systems.

Currently, native objects heavily favor timber frame construction. To accurately model PVC frame systems (e.g., Kömmerling, Schüco, Veka, Deceuninck, Gealan), users must rely on complex GDL workarounds or third-party BIM objects that often lack native Archicad tool flexibility, GDL performance, and graphic override integration.

2. Current Limitations & Pain Points

  • Inaccurate Frame Profiles: Native Archicad windows lack typical PVC profile options, such as multi-chamber internal geometry, angled drainage slopes, block frames (verhuisstijl / verdiept profiel), and narrow sightlines typical for modern PVC systems.

  • Corner Joint Representation: PVC windows feature specific corner treatments (45-degree welded joints vs. mechanical 90-degree wood-look joints / HVL). Current library parts only represent traditional wood joinery.

  • Material & Finish Constraints: PVC frames frequently use colored structural foils, dual-tone finishes (inside white, outside foil/color), and wood-grain textures (Renolit foils). Native surface assignment per frame face is currently limited.

  • Interoperability & LOD: Downloading generic third-party PVC objects often results in heavy geometry, broken GDL scripts in localized Archicad versions, or missing Model View Options (MVO) / Graphic Override support.

3. Proposed Enhancements

  1. Native PVC Profile Parameters:

    • Add dedicated frame profile presets for Flush (Vlak) and Recessed/Block (Verdiept/Blokprofiel) frames.

    • Add parametric settings for frame depth (e.g., 70 mm, 82 mm, 115 mm, 120 mm) and chamfered/rounded outer edges.

    • Add options for corner joint rendering (Welded 45° line vs. Mechanical 90° HVL connection line in 2D and 3D).

  2. Surface & Finish Customization:

    • Allow independent surface mapping for interior frame, exterior frame, rebate, and sash.

    • Add native support for foil texture directions and dual-color configurations.

  3. Manufacturer Profile Partnerships:

    • Partner with major European PVC profile extruders (e.g., Profine/Kömmerling, Veka, Schüco Polymer, Deceuninck, Gealan, Aluplast) to integrate native, lightweight, parametric GDL presets or official profile catalogs directly into the Archicad Library.

4. Business Value & Benefit to Users

  • Higher BIM Accuracy & LOD: Allows contractors, architects, and detailers to produce execution-ready 2D sections and 3D models without manual drafting overrides.

  • Time Efficiency: Eliminates the need to build custom profile complex profiles (Complex Profiles) or convert 3D elements into custom Door/Window objects.

  • Competitive Edge: Keeps Archicad ahead in residential construction and deep energy-renovation markets across Europe, where PVC accounts for a dominant share of replaced fenestration.
