Wall End Tool Improvements

Wall end tool is a very important tool to properly model and document composite and complex walls and their "loose ends." Currently, wall ends leave a lot to be desired.

There are a few options to model the wall ends. Returned end is the only one which allows for proper finishing of multi-layered composite walls. However, this tool produces unwanted lines between the same materials in sections and in 3D. Floor plan looks fine:

However, on the points indicated here, the sections / elevations (and 3D model) show a line between the same material:

Here is the elevation that shows the unsightly end line, with the highlighted wall end:

Here is the unhighlighted elevation:

Methods to prevent this from happening include

1) drawing a white line over the one which would "cover" it and prevent it from being output,

2) modeling a complex profile as a column for the whole wall

Both methods lead to errors if something gets shifted or moved even slightly.

I think the first solution on Graphisoft's part would be to remove the error / bug from the "Returned End" wall end and remove (or add ability to remove) the line between the same materials. Second solution would be a system one, which would allow us more control over overall wall behaviour, not limited to vertical ends but also horizontal and even sloped ends on top / bottom of the wall. The first one should be a relatively simple fix, the second one is a much bigger systemic change.

Over the top would be great. The frequency of needing to use a beam or railing to cap low walls...

Given the Wrapped End option does not have this merging issue, I suspect it is a long term bug in the Returned End option...

If I am interpreting your sloped ends correctly, that is a Wall Tool issue rather than a Wall End one.

Currently, if we want to have walls with sloped tops (or bottoms), we have to either trim to roof or use SEO. However, A wall end tool as it is right now could be actually used as a smart trimmer for tops and bottoms as well, not only vertical ends. If the devs are happy with the way we treat wall ends, they could expand the functionality of the wall end tool that way. HOWEVER! If they feel (like many of us here do) that the wall tool itself is up for a big retool (hue hue) then all the better! One place to edit all things wall would be great.

Also, on a closely related note, What way would you model a wall that is 15 cm thick and then becomes 10 cm thick, when only the core changes thickness, but the outer layers (other, finish) stay the same, and they need to go around the core all the same?

If the size change is only visible from one side, use a Trapezoid Wall, else use a column...
