It's still in the nascent stage but it might be something to keep an eye on. Both eyes, actually.

As I have said endlessly elsewhere on this forum, web based walkthrough this the answer but instead, GS gives us VBE which has to be transmitted, and then played locally on the client's machine. Primitive and short sighted.

Is there a link to a working model viewer on that sketchworlds site? A demo would be nice to experience rather than just movies.

A web-based viewer would still have to wait for a large download - and then if there is no 'save' option, future views would have to download again if the caching wasn't clever. So, I'm not sure I see the big deal vs VBE - one is a browser-hosted viewing program, the other is standalone.

When I watch a movie on YouTube, I can begin enjoying (or hating) it almost immediately. The fact that there is some downloading/cacheing/buffering process going on in the background is totally immaterial to me. When that same movie is emailed (if it even can be emailed given its size) or FTP'd etc, it must be received in total before it can be viewed. To me that is a substantial difference.

But the real difference is in the complexity of the viewer. There have been numerous reports of the files not playing properly or giving unexpected results. This does not happen with Youtube or Pandora or any of the other 100% browser-based media sites. For me, the save option would be something I would happily give up in order to have a 100% browser based solution.

Watching a sequential movie is totally different than navigating a 3D model - which requires the entire model to be downloaded. That's why I asked if that site (or any other) had a demo of their web-based 3D viewer...

Cheers,

'Knew you'd say that.

QTVR files (which are navigable) allow you to explore and pan around before all the data is local to your machine.

I'm not saying there might not be technical challenges. I'm just saying what I want.
