BIM and GIS

I am trying to ascertain if the ArchiCAD VB (BIM) database can be totally or partially shared with a GIS database.

For a real project, we will be modeling a small historic town in ArchiCAD, but want to have GIS import/export capabilities.

Has work been done in this area that you know of?
