Importing 3DS files - add on?

Hello,

Can anyone guide me towards the process of importing a 3ds object (e.g. chair).
I have done it previously in v.12 on a Mac with varying success (!).
Seem to remember it being related to an add-on or goody??! - why?

You still can go to the help menu to download the "goodies" but they have changed the name of the menu item and I can't remember it offhand. It's fairly obvious though as I recall.

Yeah, thats as far as I got with a help topic search - but perhaps I am missing the goody / add-on option from the help menu.....???.... or perhaps i am going blind...?... or mad...
... some are more likely than others
