MaxonFom as useful BIM tool

I have been experimenting with MaxonForm for several months and have been extremely impressed. However I see many major floors with it as a genuinely useful tool when it concerns BIM. Maybe these have been corrected for AC11, as I currently use AC10.
For example, when a roof or wall is altered within MF, it becomes a generic GDL object when returned to AC and I have been unable to assign separate materials for each side of the object.
Objects also lose a large amount of parametric attributes, making them cumbersome.

Has anyone found ways to work around this? Or have these problems been fixed within the AC11 translator?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Preach it brother.

AFAIK the issues remain with AC11. Other practical issues include
- having to buy upgrades of the tool as AC is upgraded,
- the (non) timely issue of Maxonform updates when AC itself is updated,
....all make it somewhat less attractive in an office setting...

Given that both AC and Maxonform now are owned by the same parent, and given the agressive product development of competiting BIM software, I am hoping we may see this rolled into base AC, integrating properly with AC components....but that remains a (foundationless) hope....after all Lightworks still remains a "poor old cripple relative" of its current iteration (see http://www.lightworkdesign.com/ - although in this instance the rendering engine has been bought in - and is not a Nemescheck software).

Hi,

I was looking at buying maxonform but have since decided to buy C4d and then link C4D with Archicad 11. However i have heard that the new Cinema 4D V10 wont work with Archicad (when i use it with the plugin and add-on). Can someone please tell me what version of Cinema 4D I need? All i want to do is work in AC 11 and then use the freeform modelling of C4D. I dont need to render as I do this in 3DS Max

I am using C4D 9.6 with ArchiCAD 10 and they work fine together. I have full compatability, inluding modelling, rendering and animation. MaxonForm is OK for modelling however to my knowledge you cannot use any C4D add-ons with it.

From what I can work out. There has only been one release of MaxonForm, only the plug-in has been updated (from Archicad 10 to 11). So by rights that should mean that C4D 9.6 will work with ArchiCAD 11 aswell. MaxonForm is probably your best buy as a beginner, however if you wish to use C4D to its full potential (modelling and rendering) then integrating C4D through the MaxonForm plug-in saves you the hassle of having both the MaxonForm and ArchiCAD "Exchange" plug-ins running together.
