Solar orientation

For LEED equivalents sake, I need my door, windows and wall schedules to show the solar orientation of each element.
Is this possible?
Thank you.

Without being a schedule expert, perhaps you could apply an identity code related to orientation.......

You will need a bit of GDL scripting in your doors and window to determine the direction the windows are in the wall as well as the direction angle of the wall itself.
Then add those together and compare that to the GLOB_NORTH_DIR which you can alter in the 3D projection settings.
This can be saved as a parameter in your doors and windows which you can then call into your schedules.

For the walls themselves I guess you would need to do a similar thing in a property script.

I done that to the walls, N, S, E and W in the id, but it has to be done manually and is prone to error.

Barry.
I was hoping for a scripting free solution.

Thanks anyway, because now I am fairly sure it can not be done "out of the box".

I think the ID field is the easiest (and extremely limited), but I think you have defined a very important "wish" that shouldn't be that hard for GS to add. With LEED awarding points, along with other obvious reasons, this would be a "must" priority for GS to build into the software. I don't want to hijack what you brought up, being your work here, but I think adding a thought out wish/poll would be worth doing. So, if you don't have the time/whatever to add it, I would be glad to.. just let me know.

Personally, I would like to be able to set the compass direction relative to the plan (and be able to move it around), and have that link into the model in all ways.. not just the heat gain calcs, but also for the sun angles to figure out overhangs etc (automatically). I think this is extremely important for this to be an actual BIM solution. Hey GS, it's 2008 and this is the future now! If we could place a setting "box" on the plan, enter the latitude and longitude (and run it through the seasons), and be able to move that around, we would have easy access to a ton of info.

Also, LEED for Homes now credits points to framing layouts (walls layouts etc) so this ability should be an easy BIM solution, not requiring add-ons.

I'm glad you brought this up.

In this sandy village, NO buildings can be built starting January 2009 without the certification. Some developers and their holding companies (e.g. Nakheel - you know, The Palm - and Dubai World) require this since January this year. On The Palm Jebel Ali, all the buildings HAVE TO be LEED Gold certified. Otherwise no building.

So, if you can't build it into the design from the beginning ... 😉

I would certainly vote your expressed ideas important.
Being a "certified green builder" (for whatever that's worth), I think this is getting more critical by the week.
Right now some county jurisdiction are only considering green requirements but some local cities are requiring green points.
Not too hard to get right now, but each week it seems the noose gets tighter.
With some jurisdictions, if you go over the top a bit of what they require, you can get expedited permit processing..Now that wakes me up!

Is there a poll yet?
