iCloud

With the arrival of iCloud multiple devices can now be automatically synced. This includes document & data syncing. Currently, this works only in Apple's iWork suite. However, Apple has released the API for third party developers to implement this in their apps. I would like to see GS implement this in Archicad. Wouldn't it be great to work on a job on the office desktop computer, then go home and pick up where I left off on my laptop? Or for an updated Bimx file to be automatically updated on my iPad? With so much digital information, I think the need for "syncing" is becoming an important aspect of business. Any opinions?

Sorry, but I'm not want an iCloud connection in ArchiCad, there are many cloudbased filestoring system today and iCloud isn't the best for big files. If ArchiCad should support the 'cloud' in one way (Bim-server excluded though the bim-server could act as an cloud-based archicad-server) then it should be a form of directly work against an FTP-based fileserver. But I prefered the original upload / download way.

iCloud is not the strongest cloud storage concept out there.

You can have what you ask for today, Stephen, just using dropbox. Free and cross-platform (Windows/Mac/etc). BIMx on the iPad can read files from dropbox, too.

Dropbox is so great that I am considering going for the paid service just because they deserve it.

I would not host large ArchiCAD projects on Dropbox. For that, the BIM server (with incremental updating of the model) makes more sense. By far.

However, the ease-of-use for Dropbox is nice (just a single dedicated folder in Finder, Windows Explorer and on the web) that it is very usable, even with only the free space (which you will run out of quickly if you start pushing all your archicad models and versions on it.

we use box.net it's a bit like a dropbox for enterprise. Not as simple as dropbox but has some great features for business use around permissions etc. and isn't badly priced!
