my fathers old very pc which he still uses Archicad 8, he still uses it to look at old images. the images are only readable up to Archicad 10, they can then be converted to later versions but some info is lost. he is currently using Archicad 14. the old computer he was using has failed. he has the files stored seperately in their original format. is there anything that can be done with these files as they stand to convert to a useable state on his new machine

I convert and use files all the time that were created as far back as Version 4.5 of Archicad. If it's a PC Graphisoft have the file converters available on their website for version 7, 10 and various others. You should be able to bring the file up to 25 if needs be. It's just a case of migrating the libraries and loading the Migration Library packages.
