Meet Agnes!

Who are you?

"I’m Agnes, a designer who lives at the intersection of architecture and software. My background is in architecture and Lean process development, but these days I focus on UX/UI design and leading bimdots. My goal is to find where workflows get "stuck" and build tools that help them flow again. While my roots are deep in the Archicad world, I also work on design and workflow solutions for other AECO softwares, which helps me bring a broader, cross-platform perspective to everything I build. I also help run the Digital Architecture Meetup in Budapest to keep learning from the local community."

What motivated you to start developing for Graphisoft products?

"I spent 4 years as a Product Designer at Graphisoft, so you could say I’ve seen the "behind-the-scenes" footage. I fell in love with the product and the community, but scrolling through the user forums, I kept seeing brilliant ideas and specific "pain points" that I knew could be solved with the right API magic.

Part of it was curiosity: I wanted to see if my own "wouldn't it be cool if..." ideas were doable as an outsider. The other part was pure altruism (and a tiny bit of impatience): I wanted to provide quick, elegant solutions for my fellow architects. If I can save someone ten clicks a day, I’ve done my job."

How long have you been active in the Graphisoft community?

"Like many architects in Hungary, I was introduced to Archicad during my university years, so it’s been part of my professional life from the very beginning. I’ve been working professionally within the ecosystem since 2018 - first as part of the Graphisoft team and now as an independent developer. It’s been a long journey of learning, and I’m still discovering new ways to push the boundaries of what’s possible."

About bimdots bimdots logo - text.png

"We develop a collection of focused add-ons designed to eliminate the "friction" in daily architectural modeling. Our tools simplify data management, visibility control, and model auditing, turning multi-step workarounds into single-click actions."

What inspired the idea for your content?

"It’s less about "fixing problems" and more about "polishing workflows." Archicad is an incredibly powerful, comprehensive platform, but because every architectural practice is unique, there will always be a need for specialized, niche tools. My inspiration is rooted in my own architectural background and a constant dialogue with the community.

I’m an avid reader of industry articles, a regular on the community forums, and - most importantly - I listen to my architect friends vent about their long nights. I saw designers doing amazing work but occasionally hitting those "high-friction" moments where a focused add-on could save them time. Bimdots was born to bridge those gaps, turning multi-step manual tasks into seamless, one-click experiences."

What challenges did you face during development?

"The biggest challenge was "living up to the standard." When you develop for a platform as sophisticated as Archicad, the bar for UI and stability is set very high. We worked hard to ensure our palettes felt like a natural extension of the core software, rather than an "add-on."

Navigating the API as an independent developer was a great learning curve - it gave me a new level of respect for the complexity the Graphisoft development teams manage every day. Balancing deep functionality with a clean, simple interface is a constant, but rewarding, puzzle."

Any interesting learnings or behind-the-scenes insights?

"I’ve learned that the Archicad community is incredibly resourceful. I’m constantly surprised by the clever ways users implement our tools to solve problems I hadn't even considered. It’s also been fascinating to see how universal architectural challenges are; whether in Hungary or Portugal, everyone wants a cleaner layer list and a more visual way to check their data.

A personal highlight was realizing how much the community appreciates "preventative" tools - like our Attribute Monitor. It’s basically a silent guardian that detects when "outsider" attributes try to sneak into a project via copy-paste or hotlinks, giving the user the immediate choice to keep things clean or let them in. It turns out, people really value tools that help them maintain a healthy project file before the clutter even has a chance to settle."

How does your solution add value for Graphisoft users?

"The real value is "flow." By reducing the mental load of searching through dialog boxes or manually auditing data, our tools allow architects to stay in their creative zone longer. We don't just provide software; we provide a more "delightful" day-to-day experience. Because our tools are born from direct communication with people facing real project deadlines, we ensure that every feature we add solves a genuine, practical need."

Do you collaborate with other community members or teams?

"Absolutely - collaboration is at the heart of what we do. We work closely with innovative firms like Enzyme (Jorge Beneitez) and Tecton (Benedek Gászpor) to test our tools on complex, large-scale projects. I also maintain a closed Discord channel with a core group of Archicad experts, including Nathan Hildebrandt, where we debate every button and workflow detail before it ever reaches the public. This feedback loop ensures our tools are built by the community, for the community."

Key features

  • Property & Layer Palettes: Streamlined, dockable interfaces for instant editing and search without opening deep dialog boxes.
  • Property Highlighter: Real-time visual auditing of BIM data directly in the 3D model.
  • Solid Operation Explorer: A centralized "control center" to manage and clean up complex element connections.
  • Community Tools: We also provide free utilities like the Attribute Monitor and Quick Camera, plus open-source bridges like the .bim and Fragments exporters.
