Masters

I am totally confused about Masters and cannot find basic info anywhere.
I am on AC10, and first, was and still can't find the standard masters that are supposed to be with AC10. I understand they are under Help somewhere, but it is not obvious.
Secondly, I did manage to find one master from a tutorial and am using it.
I have modified it to suit my needs.
Problems are...
Where does this master reside?
In creating it, apparently it used a specific pen set, so when I don't have that pen set activated, the lines either disappear or change weight/color.
In order to get the layers on the Master to show up consistently, I had to create a series of layers called T-Border, T-Text, T-Seals, T-Logo, etc. and to make sure these layers are turned on.
I am very certain I really don't understand this concept and can't find a "step-by-step" walk-through so I can make sure I have a clean master to use consistently from project to project.
Help!

If I understand you correctly: The master resides in the Layout Book, and you should have at least one Layer Combination and Pen Set for the Layout Book to ensure desired output (there are two settings for these two attribute sets: one for Model Views, and one for the Layout Book).

Hi Jay,
I got so annoyed with the layers in the master being turned off that I finally changed everything on the masters to the Archicad layer, which can never be turned off. Works fine now.

i found that the Layouts in the Layout Book do not have "intelligence" like the view sets, i.e. Layer Combination, Model View Options, On Screen Display Options, Scale, Zoom did I miss any?

They do not have saved Layer Combinations or Pen Sets, but the Layout Book itself does have an active Layer Combination and active Pen Set. Scale, Zoom, etc. are more a function of the Publishing Sets. Screen Display Options include "Show Masters" and "Drawing Frames" (and aren't saved in View Settings either).
