PlotMaker 9 - 2 final projects - and illustration reduction

Hi!

We are just about to hand in posters for final project. We have done nice renderings in A0 size (mine is 840 x 840 mm / 200 dpi) and now, when we import to PlotMaker, we get the size reduced!

Can that be true? Do we really need to start using illustrator?

Hope someone can help!

If I'm doing my math right, a 840x840mm rendering at 200 dpi will give you a picture of about 7000x7000 pixels, or 49 Megapixels in size. Plotmaker, like many other programs have if I remember correctly a max limit of around 4000x4000 pixels, or 16 Megapixels for each picture. I think this is essentially a system limitation.
I'm not sure Illustrator will help you in this case, but Photoshop might.

On the other hand, I don't think you will need a resolution of 200 dpi for an image of that physical size. 100 or 75 dpi should be good enough since you won't look at it that close. If you search in this forum, you will find Dwight's advice - almost never will you need greater resolution than 150 dpi for any color image. That is usually the maximum that a 600 dpi four-color printer can utilize when printing, since rasterizing and dithering techniques take their toll to get true color representation.
