With AC10 & AC9 loaded, PM9 uses AC10 for BGArchiCAD

With AC9 on my PC, I have loaded AC10. Windows now will launch AC10 in association with a PLN. For my purposes (I do not plan on using AC10 for projects started in AC9, and do not actually plan on using AC10 for a while on new projects), I first launch AC9 and then open my AC9 projects. All is well.
For PM9 though, the updating of Linked (pln) drawings launches a background copy of Archicad (AC10). Since most of the drawings are AC9, each linked pln reports that "ArchiCAD registered one or more Library Loading problems during background start-up."

Nobody likes to see error reports and library problems are usually no big deal, but should I worry? Is it okay for AC10 to open my AC9 file? will any other problems arise?

I believe the "fix" would be to Reinstall AC9 after the installation of AC10. This way windows will associate all plns with AC9 and launch that release.

For what is might be worth, I convert ac9 files almost every day (3 so far today). While there are a few "tricks" to remember to do (like don't delete lbk layers that might read via attribute manager as empty..and.. update the linked files when you open the lbk in ac10 before you save it as a 10 file to merge into the project file), I never have any issues at all. It is smooth, quick and then I have the benefits of ac10, which I love. So, unless you have some reason, I would encourage you to not fear converting ac9 into ac10 files.

I became pretty attached to the "live" link that I had on the imported OLE engineering information. I can Save the Spreadsheet data as a PDF by printing to the PDF Driver, but it is not "live" and requires me to stay "on the ball" with updating, which my non-automatic brain does not always do. Also I was told that the new/used OCE 9400 machine dose not "support" printing/plotting PDF or Postscript information. I quess I will have to create a "dead" TIFF file to import.

Thanks Rick, though for the encouragement to dive in. (still a bet of old 8.0 fears). Also I am too busy too now spend time learning a new work flow. Maybe by the time it start snowing again here and things slow down AC10 will be Patched and maybe a OLE Add-on for those that dare....

In Windows, you can specify AC9 to open PLN files.
In a Window Explorer window, choose the Tools\Folder Options menu item.
On the File Types Tab page, find the PLN file type in the list, and click the Change button.
In the appearing Subdialog specify AC 9 for the program to be used for opening it and click OK.
Make sure to check the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file checkbox.

I hope this helps.

I remember attempting to do this with previous release updates AC8 to AC9, and like now I can not "see" the previous Application.

Even if I browse to to AC9 Exe file it still will not show in the Recommended or other Programs lists.

Strange. I do not know why that happens.
