shortcut keys: global or non-text

when setting the shortcut keys, it defines them as either Global, most of them, or non-text.

what is the difference?

what is the difference?
in a text input type of window (the text editor, for example) you probably wouldn't want your single key shortcuts activating instead of typing the intended letter.
