USAGE: Utilising specific properties and corresponding Graphic Overrides to visualize the progress of the building process.

PROBLEM: It is not uncommon that during the building process, clients — actual buyers of a single property — express wishes to change the layout of their appartment. Whenever this acts on (prefabricated) structural elements, the project team needs to know if these elements have already been approved for production. If so, modifications are either prohibited or subject to significant costs. Adding this data to the BIM model makes it possible to visualize this during client- and/or team-meetings, without the need of browsing through documents. With BIMx this data is readily available on-site as well.

METHOD: All (prefabricad) structural elements — beams, colums, floors, walls — have been assigned the property "Construction-phase".

This property is set up as an option-list containing the following values (a specific graphic override is attached to the 4D BIM Overview).

  • Preparation - Override = Olive Green
    • Element not yet evaluated for construction - modifications allowed
  • Evaluated - Override = Light Ivory
    • Construction-drawings send out for approval by constructor - feedback needed if modifications wanted/needed
  • Approved - Override = Traffic Orange
    • Element approved for production - no modifications allowed without prior consent and approval of cost by client/buyer
  • Constructed - Override = Orient Red
    • Element constructed on-site - no modifications possible

Using BIMx one can set the clipping plane to the required height and check the status for any structural element.
