Hi everyone,
I recently started testing Archicad 29 (coming from Archicad 28) and I am noticing the exact same performance issues I experienced with the last two versions (27 and 28): Archicad occasionally becomes slow and laggy when zooming (in or out) and panning in 2D.
The lag seems to worsen the longer I work on a file, or right after taking a short pause. Crucially, this does not happen at all in the 3D window. The 2D zoom and pan feel noticeably slower when my mouse hovers over an object, or when I pan towards complex hatches or dense areas of the building.
As mentioned, I had this exact issue in Archicad 27 and 28. I previously created a thread about it, and a user named "MASz" kindly solved it for me. The workaround was to open the Registry Editor and change the RenderingAPI value from 0 to -1 under: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GRAPHISOFT\Archicad\Archicad 28.0.0\Graphix
(Here is the link to my old thread for reference: https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Installation-update/ARCHICAD-27-Slow-zoom-and-pan/td-p/603267)
ARCHICAD 27 - Slow zoom and pan
However, in Archicad 29, changing the RenderingAPI value to -1 does not solve the issue at all anymore. Instead, it just makes all the 2D lines appear much thicker, and the lag remains. The lag is not as bad as in Archicad 27 and 28 before the changing of API value, but it's enough to annoy me when I work all day on a single project...
To be honest, I am getting very tired of fighting these same display performance issues year after year with every new release. It is incredibly frustrating, especially given that I am running a high-end workstation:
CPU: Intel Core i9-13900KF
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3090
RAM: 64 GB
Storage: High-speed SSDs
OS: Windows 11 (with latest Studio Drivers)
Is the GDI/legacy engine (-1) completely gone in v29? And more importantly, is there any other way to get a smooth 2D navigation back on modern DirectX engines with high-end GPUs?
I would deeply appreciate any advice or help on this.
