Insights from the Flex Your BIMx roundtable

Roundtable.png

Earlier this year, we hosted the Flex Your BIMx challenge, which also featured an exclusive roundtable with the authors of the selected entries and our team. It was a fruitful session, which we look forward to achieving again with the next Design Options roundtable.

The session included @Abraham Smith, certified BIM Manager at Königsberger Vannucchi Arquitetos Associados; @Benazzi Junior and Luciana Ferreira, certified BIM Manager and engineer, respectively, at Benazzi Engenharia; @Diego Barreto, certified Brazilian trainer; @Johan Stinckens, certified BIM Manager at ARCHITECTENBUREAU ATRIUM, our Product Manager @Roland Szabo and Product Designer @Zsolt Sarkadi.

Key points

Over the course of an hour, we discussed the strengths of BIMx as well as ideas on where it could support professionals even more. Here are a few key points we concluded with:

  • BIMx is not just a presentation tool, it’s also used on construction sites for collaboration (for example, for providing a digital archive for on-site use; assisting with health and security training together with VR headsets, etc.)
  • BIMx is frequently used on collaborative projects, for communication and validation. The tool has been especially useful for social housing projects in Brazil, enhancing the communication between architects and the final users; and facilitating real-time issue annotation.
  • Of course, BIMx is largely used for Architecture and Engineering projects as a digital presentation tool. There’s growing interest in the integration of BIMx with Augmented Reality and the Internet of Things.

As for suggestions, we collected feedback on collaboration features, visualization, desktop & browser app functionalities, visibility control, cut planes, artificial lighting, and more.

BIMx API

Roland Szabó brought up the BIMx API, which allows users to channel live data into BIMx. For example, you can insert website links into the element context menu, control light switches and mechanics in real life, stream cameras, etc. See examples here, check our introduction slides. You can learn more after registering on the BIMx API website.

Overall, the roundtable provided a platform to share experiences, challenges, and innovative ideas related to BIMx. Thank you to the insightful participants of the Flex Your BIMx challenge and roundtable for spotlighting their innovative excellence using tools.

If you would like to participate in a roundtable with our Team, we invite you to join the Your Best Design Option challenge. We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to our dedicated users, for a discussion on our brand-new tool, Design Options.
