With the introduction of Library Packages in Archicad, users were given the ability to globally adjust standard attributes of library elements (e.g., pen numbers) through a Library Default JSON file, also referred to as the Mapping Values table.
If you have previously worked with Mapping Values table editing, you may remember the workflow from the tutorial video where the table was exported, modified, and then re-imported to apply new defaults to library objects.
Although this feature was revolutionary, manually editing the JSON file proved to be cumbersome, which limited its practical use.
In January 2026, Lukas Oelmueller, a German Archicad power user, shared a YouTube tutorial demonstrating how to import the JSON file into Excel, filter and edit it, and then export it back for use in Archicad. This workaround provided a temporary solution, but it was clear that a more user-friendly, scalable approach was needed.
Joachim Sühlo, another active community member, recognized the potential for improvement. Instead of relying on Excel, he developed a browser-based prototype using an AI model, making the tool accessible to users without technical expertise. The community quickly embraced the idea, providing feedback and suggestions for enhancements.
Lukas Oelmueller continued to expand the prototype, adding new functionality and improving user experience. In close collaboration, Bence Zobor - a Graphisoft employee and developer of the German Archicad templates - discovered and tested the tool. Impressed by its efficiency, Lukas Oelmueller and Bence Zobor refined the tool together, adapted it to the Graphisoft design, and – with the support of AI – developed a professional, brand-compliant solution.
The Result: A Global Tool for All Users
What began as a community-driven workaround has now evolved into a professional, browser-based Library Package Editor, available to Archicad users worldwide. The tool eliminates the need for manual JSON editing or Excel workarounds, allowing users to customize library attributes with ease.
A Testament to Collaboration
This project highlights the power of community collaboration and the role of AI in accelerating innovation. Special thanks to Lukas Oelmueller, Joachim Sühlo, and Bence Zobor for their contributions, which have turned a technical challenge into a user-friendly solution for the global Archicad community.
The tool is available for download here as an attachment and runs directly in a web browser.
