BIMx - constant crashing

I notice that I cannot open most of my BIMx models on an iPad unless I simplify the BIMx model by turning off some of the items (for example trees layer). Sometimes I also have to keep global illumination uninitialized.

My BIMx files are often 80mb in size.
Any suggestions.

Simplify the model, as described here:

http://www.graphisoft.com/support/bimx/optimization/

Using the Polycount add-on to reduce the detail of all objects is a good start. In the model I published, which is fairly large and includes MEP, reducing the detail of objects produced a very light BimX file:

Material texture bitmaps also eat up a lot of memory. Check your materials for large bitmaps. A more extreme solution which I'm considering for use when trying to get large models into BIMx : temporarily swap in a duplicate set of materials with ALL the bitmaps deleted.
