Which version of OS X? What mouse / any special mouse driver in use?
(I've not had this problem or seen it reported FWIW.)
With multiple monitors (including a 27"), I sometimes lose the cursor... and have been using the free "Mouse Locator" utility for a few years. Works great:

I didn't like the trigger-after-delay feature, so just have it attached to a shortcut key (ctrl-spacebar) so I can find the cursor when I've lost it...
