Hi, we are a Mac-based architect company of around 10 people, using Archicad. We have both Teamwork projects and regular projects. For the last year we have been using a macmini as our fileserver (with the Apple Server software) and also as our Teamwork server. Both Teamwork projects and regular projects and also other files like Word, Excel, pdf, photoshop have been store on the macmini.
This setups has been a mixed blessing. We have experienced strange slowness of the network - usually it works well in the morning, but then around 3 or 4 pm everything suddenly gets very slow - especially browsing the fileserver in Finder, and lately also Teamwork server communication. It does not happen every day, but maybe every second day, on average. Could this be explained by the Teamwork server? Maybe it is doing some kind of self-maintenance at specific times?
One suggestion would be a Mac Pro or a Windows server for the Teamwork server and its projects. And maybe a Synology for the other projects and other files. Any comments to this? We would like a solution that is "good enough", and not too expensive. Our largest Teamwork projects are about 3 gigabyte filesize (office building, 7 stories). There are no more than 5 people working simultaneously on one Teamwork project.
What would be suitable hardware for our situation?
