This may seem to be a dumb question....how would I know if my mac is 64-bit version compatibility and what is that ?

The number of bits primarily determines the amount of RAM that can be addressed by the OS or applications. 32-bit addressing can theoretically access about 4GB, which has become a serious limitation for some modern applications.

The processor in your Mac will determine whether is can run 64-bit apps or not. Most can, so it's unlikely you'll have a problem. Click the item About This Mac under the Apple menu. The palette that appears will show you the processor type. I think you would only have a problem if it said Core Solo or Core Duo. Note that Core 2 Duo is fine (the names are too similar for my liking).
