Projectors

I was wondering if anybody is using a projector screen to replace the traditional monitor or flat screen? Any drawbacks....lamp life, noise, surrounding light levels, etc?
2 days ago I had the opportunity to present a school design to the Board and I used their projector to show plotmaker and movie files. I also did some adjustments to the AC model while on the projector. It was awesome. The size of the screen/image was a delight and reminded me of working on the old drawing board for clarity of view. Scrolling in to 3D photoreal shots created a large powerful effect.
If the projector could be used in conjunction with a really adjustable chair and the comfort level would increase dramatically. One could design and draw either sitting or almost lying down.
Cheers,

graeme,
sounds great to me. i broke my arm 2 weeks ago & have not been able to find a comfortable 'work environment'. i guess one would just have to work out the postioning of projector, screen & room lighting.
btw, how was the resolution? one of those dlp projectors would really be nice. plus a great new equipment rightoff.

One problem is low resolution. The best ones (AFAIK) are XGA-1024x768. Too small for AC8. There are SXGA-1280x1024 models but they are scaled, not true, resolution. Fine for an audience but hell to work on.

If anyone has heard of a true SXGA I would like to know about it.

Tim and Mathew,
The projector did affect the res of my screen. It dropped from 1400 to 1280 or 1040 (?). However I found it quite legible because of the sheer size and illumination of the image. The navigator did drop off the bottom of the screen somewhat. The mouse worked well on the large image.
BTW the res on the screen had to be readjusted after disconnecting the projector.
Bad luck about your arm Tim. Difficult working with only one arm I can imagine. I suggest if you are interested you try a projector before buying as they may not suit everyone.
I am seriously considering getting one however I may wait until the res increases and I can work out if I can accommodate the projector in our present work environment.
