(Let me start by saying that this post is written in April 2015, if you found it in the archives it's probably outdated)
OK, disclaimers aside -- our Xserve is aging gracefully but with recurring problems, and as of 2015 Apple does not offer dedicated server hardware. We have a few Firewire400 HD enclosures with manually cycled nightly backups and would like to keep that routine.
For those of you who recently had to make that decision, what new hardware did you pick for your SOHO operations? If you chose the Mini, are there any benefits of buying the hybrid SSD+HDD drive (in a server scenario, where applications typically reside in RAM for extended amount of time)?
We currently run 10.6 server with BIM v16 module. Would buying a Mac with 10.10+the OS-X server add-on require us to migrate to v18, or can I safely install and run the v16 module on that?
Thanks!
