Wall types & fills missing after reloading ArchiCAD

My hard drive crashed recently but not before I managed to save existing projects to CD. After reinstalling ArchiCAD to a new hard drive I created separate folders for old and new projects. I transferred my previous projects from CD to the Old Projects folder, and all new projects since the crash are in the New Projects folder.

I also created a new separate file called Template, which I thought would contain all original default settings so I could use it as the starting point for all subsequent projects, without my previous experience of errors being compounded and passed from one job to the next.

My problem is this: While the Old Projects still have access to a large palette of wall types and fills, the New Projects have a greatly reduced palette. For instance, I can't find brick veneer wall types, or fills for various wall, beam and slab finishes.

It goes without saying I'm fairly new to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation!

I assume your new projects are created from the template, so your real problem is the lack of attributes (fills, etc.) in that file.

Use Attribute Manager (in the Options menu) to copy the desired fills, etc. into your template and new files.

Matthew,

Thanks for your advice. I'll give it a go.

Cheers!

Matthew,

I followed your advice and successfully transferred attributes from one project to another. This gave me a much larger palette to work from on that job, (a great improvement) but......

I assume that somewhere in ArchiCAD is the complete library of fills etc. Is there any way of accessing this so I can set up a template of ALL available attributes (fills, composites etc.) and edit that in Attribute Manager to transfer to specific future jobs?

Thanks again

Hold down the option/alt key while pulling down the file menu and you will get the option of New & Reset. This will create a new file with all the factory default attributes.

There, are of course, many attributes beyond the defaults created by third parties and individual users. For any of these you will have to go hunting.

If you like the settings (attributes) in an old project.. then open the old project, then go file / new. this produces a new file with the attributes of the old.
Then file / merge the new project with the old. The new project will now have all the attributes of the old... materials , pens etc.
If there are new layers in the new file these will be added to the merged file
The only thing that will not come over with this method is the layer combos... these can imported with the attribute manager

Unfortunately Alt/File/new & reset just creates a new untitled document with the same limited palette that I'm trying to improve on.

As far as I remember I didn't say anything about a new and reset. Just do what I said in my last msg

Thanks to advice from Matthew & David the problem is sorted. New & Reset simply refused to work on this machine for some reason so I tracked down the very first project I ever did, which I assumed would have the factory defaults. It did.

I then used Attribute Manager to do an almost complete overwrite from this original project to my new project Template, to be used as the basis for future jobs, only retaining my preferred layer combinations.

Thank you gentlemen!

Although using Attribute Manager to regenerate the settings from my first project greatly improved things I still have some missing fills. While I can live with what I've got, is there any reason why alt/file/new & reset isn't working correctly and giving me ALL of the original factory settings? Thanks again.
