What plotter works well with Archicad

We are considering purchasing a plotter for our 5 person office. Are there any plotters that work well with Archicad & Leopard? We are currently considering the Epson 7880 and 9880. Any suggestions on a good plotter?

You are right to be concerned with compatibility issues with plotters but hardly anyone makes them anymore. The Epsons are considered printers not plotters (at least AFAIK they do not support HPGL) and should work fine with either Mac or Windows. Even the HP machines are called printers now with HPGL sold as an extra cost option.

I don't have much experience with the latest machines but generally Epson and Canon seem to have the best cross platform driver support. HP has been quite bad about supporting the Mac with any of their professional equipment. (The consumer grade printers seem to be well supported but then they are usually tossed before they become too old for driver support.)

I guess "plotter" is the wrong word these days for what we're looking for...we are definitely looking for a large format printer (24"-44"w) that will not only print line drawings but high resolution images for presentation purposes. Your comments re: HP caught my ear since we've had bad experiences with HP we currently have their B9180 13x19 model. Great output but alot of problems with it printing at all. We eventually received a replacement model from them... long story.

Anyway, Just like buying a car the resellers we've spoken to so far are pushing what they have in stock verses what may work best for us. So we are looking elsewhere for a good recommendation. Our concerns are, low maintenance, reliability & COMPATIBILITY in our all MAC office & with Archicad.

So any addl suggestions are appreciated.

Have one..is great...Hpgl2 plots and fills can be problematic....so I typically print. Seperate ink cartrige and print heads are a plus.

We have monochrome HP Designjet 430 large format printer from ADT days. We haven't had any problem since the time we have switched to AC10

We use a Savin 2404 in our office. This machine is incredible. You can print (from Archicad), copy, or scan up to 36" wide. It has been a tremendous time-saver.

we are also looking for a new wide-format printer/plotter

our current beast... an HP 750c has given up the ghost

we are looking for something similar..... though not necessarily with colour

are there large format laser-printer type machines that are fast an furious... but also allow for roll feed etc

any/all advice greatly appreciated

thanks i advance

ps... i had a quick look at the savin 2400wd (online)... looks pretty cool... though very expensive

for what it is worth... we are an all Mac firm... and this would need to be on the network

Thanks for everyones input. We are leaning towards the HP T1100. According to its specs, it will give us the speed we need for line drawings plus very nice resolution for high quality presentation materials without the higher ink needs of a photo printer such as the Epson 9880 or HP Z3100. If anyone else has the HPT1100 .....please give us your feedback before we seal this deal.

Thx

techwman

according to the HP website this printer is no longer available

are yu looking at this one rather than one of their "current" models for a particular reason?

i too am also after something that does mainly CAD work.... is reasonably efficient with the inks... prints fast and not necessarily "photo" quality colour work

anyone?

thanks again in advance
