Windows 8 32-bit is NOT OK

GRAPHISOFT has announced with the release of ArchiCAD 16 last June that it was the last version to support 32-bit Windows operating systems, and the next version will only support 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows 8. (The Mac version of ArchiCAD is already 64-bit only since version 15).

Browsing the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) database, I noticed that roughly one in ten users on Windows 8 is using the 32-bit version. That is really bad since these computers will not be able to run the next version of ArchiCAD.

So a word of warning: When you are buying a new Windows computer, make sure the system is 64-bit. There is really no point of buying a 32-bit system, unless you have an old plotter or other peripheral that does not have a 64-bit driver. But be aware that you will be sacrificing the latest and greatest ArchiCAD for a device that is probably 10+ years old already.

Little remark:
The "bitness" of Windows since Vista is not bound to the sticker, If the user has 32 bit Windows since Vista - he/she can install 64 bit version - unfortunately 32 to 64 cannot be upgraded.
