3ds conversion problem

Anonymous
Not applicable
I am having a bit of trouble converting most objects from .3ds to .gdl.

I have just purchased AC11 and have downloaded the 3ds coversion goodie, but I can't seem to get the objects to convert.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Justin

Maybe you should upload it or provide a link from which to download it from so anyone interested in trying it out may do so.
It is hard to say anything in general.

Hi Justin,
I think I know the cause of the problem.
The 3DS file contains 3 material definitions. The names are: "001gold", "3bulb" and "8candle"
In the GSM Object, parameters are created from these. But the problem is that in GDL parameter and variable names cannot start with a number, only with a letter.
Unfortunately, the Add-On does not check this and creates those parameter names, which causes error in the script, which then does not work.
I modified the parameter names in the parameter list and in the 3D Script and now it works.
I will let the GS guys know to build this check into the Add-On: if the attribute name starts with a number, convert it and all references to it to something that stats with a letter.
I uploaded the file to a place (it is too large, I cannot attach it here):

The GSM file became pretty big (over 6 megs), because the chandelier contains over 50000 polygons. Not very fast to generate in the 3D Window either.
You should also create some 2D for it in the 2D Symbol Window of the Library Part editing Window, because right now there is none. YOu will only see a dot on the Floor Plan, but it is there in 3D.

You are welcome.
Also, you were lucky because I got interested in the problem.
Does not always happen.
