GDL adpater for Autocad - Administrator rights

Can anyone tell me if the GDL adapter for Autocad V8 requires administrator rights to install it on a windows XP machine??

I am having to get in our ITsupport people becuase I cant download the exe. file( apparently these files can cantain spyware etc)
