Roof Accessories

Does anyone know, where in the world, I can find paramertic GDL roof vents? I am looking for half round, sheet metal, dormer / eyebrow roof vents that can be resized and placed on any roof pitch. Looked and looked, but I can't find one for free or for sale.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. The Italian web link looks really interesting The tile surfacer seems to provide openings for skylights and such, but I saw no reference to sheet metal roof vents. However, my Italian, as you might expect, is limited to Pizza and I may have missed a link to roof vents. If so let me know.

Sacramento, California has a very Italian climate and roof venting is a big issue here, so much so, that I supply roof vent calculations on the drawings along with the roof plan. I usually draw the roof vents in 2D on the plan, but it would be nice if I could place a vent object on the 3D model and show it as it would be seen.

Seiss,
Could you post a drawing of what you are looking for.
I am unsure what this object looks like.
Is it like a eyebrow window with a metal grill instead
of a window ?

Your description is basicly correct. Better then a drawing, here is a URL to a web page featuring standard louvered sheet metal roof vents.

http://www.slateandcopper.com/dormer-vent-index.php

These are the kind I use, with simple shapes, half-round, semi-round, gabled, triangler, etc., but many can be found in the architectural fashion of the highly ornate baroque, a tinners wet dream.

I know I can make these individually with wall, window and roof tools, but that is a lot of work for what is basically a sheet metal roof accessory like gutters, leaders and flashing. The nice thing about having a GDL object for this accessory is that not only could you change its size, but more importantly, you could change its angle to fit various roof slopes.

Certianly I am not the only ArchiCAD user incorporating sheet metal roof vents in his building model.... or am I?

Seiss:
I coudn't find one either and ended up (as you say) building it with the roof tool (barrel vault) and a half-round Louver. Not perfect, but it's done.

Mark,
If you built the vent roof with the roof tool set for barrel vault
how did you hide the parallel edges of all the little roofs ?

They're there. I thought they would help it read as a curved object.

PLUS, I couldn't figure how to get rid of them

Mark,
Thanks for posting back.
I thought for a moment you had discovered some secret
setting for the roof tool.
The only way I have been able to get rid of them is to
save all the the roofs as a library part and then edit
the 3D script of all those little roofs (a real pain).
Dwight suggested, and I agree, that using Profiler
to make barrel vaults, domes, etc is easier and
you don't get all those edge lines.

Thanks for the tip, Peter.

Profiler is an addon that I have little experience with, ...But next time ... I'll give it a try.
