Save project as GDL problem

I use a lot of multiple buildings—of varying heights—on a site. To do this I save entire individual building files as library objects (File>GDL Objects>Save Project as). On my site plan file I add in the various buildings as GDL Objects.

Often in the past in ArchiCad v6.0 and now in v8.1 I get a lot of alerts such as the following when I try to view the object in 3D:

"Opposite edge list direction in pgon 2.
Normal vector and edge 18 is not perpendicular in pgon 3.
Opposite edge list direction in pgon 2.
Normal vector and edge 18 is not perpendicular in pgon 3."

Besides being annoying this can corrupt the section views of a project after awhile. I export very simple pared down buildings and leave off windows, doors, internals, all library parts....I've checked the GDL scripts (File>GDL Objects>Open object) and they are OK.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks

The errors you listed are from GDL primitives. I am not sure why they are used when you save your buildings as objects. It may be that you are saving as binary objects. If so try saving as editable GDL. (And if you are saving as editable GDL, try saving as binary.)

The reasons for the errors may be impossible to isolate. They are probably due to internal calculation (runtime) errors and not actual errors in the code. I could describe what they mean but GDL primitives are only of interest to programmers and developers (and maybe not that much to them either) and even if the errors are in explicit code the chances of fixing them are far smaller than making them worse.

So try resaving per the first paragraph and let us know how it goes. If this error is endemic it is of serious concern to me since I have been doing a lot of master planning lately and it could definitely mess me up.

Good luck.

As best I can tell when saving an entire individual building file as a library object (File>GDL Objects>Save Project as) there are no options for saving as editable GDL or as binary objects. As I said earlier this is a problem I've had for years on two different machines and with two versions of ArchiCAD. I'm doing a master planning project at this moment and it's no fun.

Thanks for your reply

I'll check this on one of my own projects. I don't recall having this problem much (mostly back when I was programing in primitives) so I may not be able to reproduce it. It concerns me though, as I may have several large master planning projects coming up.

Could the buildings be saved out at DWG files, then opened as GDL objects from the import side of things?

Would this by pass the issues of saving the building out as GDL the first time?

Would this drop too much of the building's materials and render the building object useless in the grand scheme of things?
