looking for model of Hindu Ganesh Deity

Anonymous
Not applicable
There are to be several alters in the residence that I am currently working on. I am looking for a model of a statue of Ganesh or Ganesha or other Hindu Deities to put in the alters.

Please let me know if you know of a model of Ganesh or any other Hindu dieties that I can put in my project.

I am having a bit of difficulty createing a simple niche to use as an alcove for the alter. Is there a simple way to create an arched topped alve to use as an alter?

Thank you,
John

Don't know about the statue mate - good luck with all that!

Your niche is easier than you think. You can simply make a slab the shape you want, give it an ID of 'wallniche' and save it as a window.

Do a search for 'WALLNICHE' in the ArchiCAD help or browse to ArchiCAD 9 Reference Guide > Tools > Parametric Objects > Creating GDL Objects Using ArchiCAD Tools> and click on "Saving Custom Shape Doors and Windows from the Plan File".

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Link.

Lihnk,
I had tried following ArchiCAD's Help instructions for creating a 'WALLNICHE' but the resulting window did two things that didn't work for me.
1) I made a slab with a curved side that would become the arched top of the niche and saved it as a window. When I placed the resulting window there was a rectangular hole in the wall even though the window object did have a curved top.
2) The resulting window object left a hole that went all of the way through the wall. The niche that I want is an alcove that does not penetrate all of the way through the wall.

The Object Library offer's openings but they also penetrate all of the way through the wall.

I could also use the Solid Element Operations but the wall thickenss, type and location are still changing so the Operator Element would need to change each time the wall changed.

Do you have a suggestion for creating an alcove type niche in a wall where the alove/niche moves and changes when the wall moves and changes?

Thank you,
John

John,
The niche object that makes a niche in a sufficiently thick wall
is a window, accessible with the window tool, and is hiding in the folder Masonry->Wall Extras->W Niche Round

Remember the "find library parts" feature in AC9 object tool.

Stuart,
At first I thought you were joking about there being a "Find Library Parts" Search Tool. Then I searched the Help menu and read how to do this. It is great! Thank you for telling me about this feature--it is super helpful.

The trick for is to know whether you are looking for an object, window or door. In our case the 'Niche' we were looking for is a window and not an object. It would be a much more powerful tool if it could do a name search that would search all of the libraries on my computer across all tools (objects, windows, doors, etc.).

The tool would be even more powerful if it could read my mind about what I am looking for and search all library parts on my computer and the web for a match.

Thank you,
John

It's also fun to play "What did that call that thing?". Try searching for a "cabinet" or a "toilet" and you will not get much
