3D Cutaway Shadow Study?

Anonymous
Not applicable
I'm trying to do an interior shadow study, but can't find a way to see the plan view I want with a full set of shadows.

I'd like to use the 3D Cutaway feature oriented in plan view, however, none of the elements above the cutting planbe seem to cast shadows.

Similarly, in regular 3D, plan view, if I use the layer settings to change my roof to wireframe, it will no longer cast a shadow. Or if I deselect showing roofs in 3D they no longer cast shadows.

Does anyone know of a way to through a roof, but have it cast a shadow?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Alex,
have you tried assigning a transparent material to the roof planes you want to see through?

I tried that this morning. The results are underwhelming, the internal engine assigns a dot pattern to transparent materials, and getting the transmittence/attenuation of the material to a happy medium is difficult (too much transmittance and no shadow, too little and the dot pattern becomes more prevalent.) Plus it obsures the shadow pattern on the inside of the space too much.

What we are trying to find is how much solar gain we will get.

Instead I'm creating elevation sun studies, it just requires more of them to get the idea, and doesn't present it to the client as clearly as I had hoped.
