Custom Stairs

Hi All,

I am trying to build this stair with stair maker.. I understand that it is a custom stair and although I know I can make this with two stairs or with slabs and other things, I would really like it just to be a single stair that I can edit, throw balustrades on, change materiality and so on.

Basically, when I select the fill and the line of travel I get the the following error message:
'cannot generate stair with this line of travel'
Which would be fine if I were trying to build something really wacky, but this stair is really quite straightforward, so I don't know what the deal is.

Please help?

Hi Nick,

Try widening the gap between the two flights. ArchiCAD has a problem if they are too close!

Also make sure you are using individual lines and not a polyline to define the line of travel, although it will warn you about this in the error message so I guess you have done this bit correctly.

Perfect.. so now it works.. ish.. However, if I widen the gap enough to allow ArchiCAD to build a custom stair, it tries to throw a tread in the space.
This stops me from having treads any wider than 140mm (the dimension I've widened the space to) which makes this a non-compliant stair. I have no wish to have a full 250mm tread in this space as I am trying to create a compact stair in an awkward configuration.

Am I wasting my time? is this going to be possible or should I just do it with two stairs. If so, is it possible to make balustrades connect to each other on two different stairs?

Hi,

I'm having the same kind of problem. Reading the previous posts, as a test, I have stretched the hatch and lines to make the central hole larger or to make that left turn a bit longer but AC keeps giving me this error message "cannot generate stair with this line of travel."

Is this kind of stair too complicated for AC to handle?

This was posted for many times. If you just make a search.
However, the line of travel CAN NOT BE made with ARCS or POLYLINES, only LINES!!!

Thanks but I have read the posts on this subject.
I know about not using polylines but what do you mean "no arcs"? What if I want a turn with no landing? What about those posts about the ellipsoid stair? The walking line was made of arcs!

It is always possible to construct it the old way like on Paper and then use the drawings for 3D-slabs to make the Stair.
