Does a list of the "groups" exist in the system? How can we access them?

hi,

anyone knows if its possible to get a list of the existing groups (Edit->Grouping->Group) of a project model?
Does such a list exist in some way in the system?
Can it be extracted with Python/ C++?

Thanks again for any hint!

Hello Florian Lohberger,

Groups seems to be just a way of select.
I have never seen an ID or GUID about a group so I do not think it is possible to do a list.

hi,

yes, and "that way" of selection must be in some sort saved in the database.
I can imagine that its "very hidden" in the code - but it must be there.

If it would be accessable with an ID or an GUID - like you mentioned - it open A LOT of new ways to manage objects in a hierarchical way. A little bit like nested GDL objects.

Hi,

Perhaps you're right and somewhere deep in the code there is some GUID for each created group, but I don't know how it behaves when one group is deleted and another added (does it overwrite GUID?) - quite risky to use that kind of reference.

There is a palette called Selections where you can assign elements to a selection set and perhaps this gets some sort of GUID which is more accessible from an user point of view, but I'm just pointing you in a direction, I have no idea if that is true. You'll need to dig more

Hi Florian,

Thank you very much for your request!

This would be a great idea to better manage groups in Archicad. I have added it into our Wish List database (please refer to it as Wish #12898). Hopefully, our Product Management team will adopt this one in the future.

Thank you all for your contribution, and I wish you a great day!

Best regards,
Minh
