Firstly, can I say that the problem doesn't occur when using either:
- ctrl-shift-D
- ctrl-D, then ctrl
in each of these cases, you don't get a pet palette, but that's fine usually.
Problem only occurs when 'long click'-dragging (ie. click and hold left mouse button) on an object and then hitting ctrl (to get the +).
The problem seems to be associated with the pet palette when the "follow cursor" option is selected in Work Environment options.
I know, it's just a matter of changing the way I work, but it would be nice to have it fixed, as this working method has always worked for me in previous versions and it minimises the amount of extra keyboarding

got waylaid by work in hand and didn't finish the post...
The problem is:
After click-dragging and hitting ctrl, i get a + until the object is approx. 50pix away from it's original position, at which point the + drops off and a copy isn't made.
Hitting ctrl again after that seems to fix the 'drop-off' permanently for that drag only.

OOPS!

Experimenting a bit it seems that when you left mouse click to drag you have to make sure you let go of the mouse button before you press the CTRL key.
If you still have the mouse button pressed then press the CTRL key the "+" will appear but as soon as you let go of the mouse button it will disappear.
Working fast it is very easy to press CTRL while you are still holding the mouse button.
The trick is drag an let go of the mouse button then press CTRL.
I hope this is the solution to your problem.
