Drag a Copy glitch

Anonymous
Not applicable
I have been experiencing a glitch with Drag a Copy function in v.11 (1086 AUS)...

Firstly, can I say that the problem doesn't occur when using either:
- ctrl-shift-D
- ctrl-D, then ctrl
in each of these cases, you don't get a pet palette, but that's fine usually.

Problem only occurs when 'long click'-dragging (ie. click and hold left mouse button) on an object and then hitting ctrl (to get the +).
The problem seems to be associated with the pet palette when the "follow cursor" option is selected in Work Environment options.

I know, it's just a matter of changing the way I work, but it would be nice to have it fixed, as this working method has always worked for me in previous versions and it minimises the amount of extra keyboarding

OK.
But what's the problem?

OOPS!
got waylaid by work in hand and didn't finish the post...

The problem is:

After click-dragging and hitting ctrl, i get a + until the object is approx. 50pix away from it's original position, at which point the + drops off and a copy isn't made.
Hitting ctrl again after that seems to fix the 'drop-off' permanently for that drag only.

The Ctrl is a toggle - are you sure you're not using ctrl to invoke a pan or zoom command, which will turn it off. Either way, you should be able to hit ctrl multiple times to toggle it - otherwise it sounds buggy.

Definitely not invoking pan/zoom. I've been using the ctrl toggle successfully since AC9, so am very familiar with it & happy it exists for quick one-off duplicate (ctrl-shift-D is a little tedious - although admittedly could be re-defined)

Seems like a bug to me.

Does it do the same thing for multiple copies (ctrl+alt)?

I know your problem - happens in AC10 as well.

Experimenting a bit it seems that when you left mouse click to drag you have to make sure you let go of the mouse button before you press the CTRL key.
If you still have the mouse button pressed then press the CTRL key the "+" will appear but as soon as you let go of the mouse button it will disappear.
Working fast it is very easy to press CTRL while you are still holding the mouse button.
The trick is drag an let go of the mouse button then press CTRL.
I hope this is the solution to your problem.
