Geodesic and Geometric Structures

I wonder if anyone could advise how geodesic and geometric grids can be formed in archicad.

Actually building geodesic structures with Archicad elements is tedious.

Our GDL Guru David Nicholson-Cole's GDL Cookbook presented a parametric "Geodesic Vault" object. It is not made of connecting elements with a skin between as typical geodesic structures are. See attached.

Unless other pre-made objects exist, you are faced with making domes and arches with individual elements - tilted beams mainly. And triangular roof elements as skins. This is most simply done for a dome since the modules can easily be duplicated and rotated.

I see that SketchUp has several Geodesic structures in their library....

Hello Dwight,
I have the GDL Cookbook 3 and I can't find the "Geodesic Vault" object.
Which folder of the cookbook library is it in ?
Thanks,
Peter Devlin

You are certainly on me this week for my lack of accuracy, and
You have me on this one.

I can see that i am no match for you.

All i know is that it is for V7 of Archicad.

Perhaps it was never in the Cookbook at all - perhaps something he just sent to me for amusement.

I see in Cookbook 3.1 that there is a geodesic exercise, so it is there to be done.

Hello Dwight,
My intention is never to give you a hard time or get on you,
especially not you.
In the matter of transparency in shading, I honestly thought
that you were referring to something I did not know about
and wanted to know what you meant.
Concerning "Geodesic Vault" , I was intrigued by the
shape in your image and though I had searched through
the CookbookLibrary I could have easily missed it
and that is why I asked which folder it was in.

I say again, I would never intentionally give you a hard time.
If I ask you questions it is because I know you know a great deal
about Archicad and other things like artistic judgement, GDL,
sailboats, and much more.
Sincerely,
Peter Devlin

I am joking.
But those two answers were incomplete on my part, so you made good points.

I will write to David Nicholson-Cole and find the origin of the part.

Robert Bissertt is the mac-daddy when it comes to doing this type of work.

Maybe you could get a hold of him. His website is http://www.buildart.com/DomeDesigns.htm.
Haven't seen him round here for a while. Maybe Karl knows more, since they are/were neighbours.

Cheers,
Link.

Yo, Maurice!!

Great object - but it needs a ROTx 180 to work up here.
