How did they model the NHS roof ?

I was looking into the project of the NHS office archicad model.
from here.

I think the general model is no big problem with archicad but the roof has been put in as an OBJECT.

any ideas how this was built in archicad or maybe it was built in another program and then imported as a 3ds file ?

I hope this can be done in archicad.

I haven't had a look at the model so can't say for sure.
But if it is saved as an object then it could have been modeled as a curving wall from a variety of slabs and colums and complex profiles, maybe even other objects.
Then the whole thing saved as an object and rotated to lay flat.
Many things can be created this way.

None that I can think of.
It would just be a matter of making it in its parts.

First create a complex profile (cross section) for the long "S" shaped side frame.
It could be a simple box or as detailed in shape as you want.

Then create an "S" shaped complex profile wall using this profile.
Don't forget this roof is laying on its side on the floor.

Now elevate copies of this will above itself to form the other frames across the width of the roof.
You could create new profiles for these if they will differ but if it is just a plane box frame then just duplicate and elevate.

Create complex profile columns and position them along the wall (rotating as necessary).
Again it could be just a simple box or more detailed if needed.

Now you should have a framework roof lying on its side.

Add a curving wall for the glass or sheeting.
Keep adding as much detail to the model as you need.

Finally select it all and view in 3D.
In the 3D Projection settings select a side view that will in fact look as if you are viewing the foof from the top.
Save as a GDL object that can now be placed in plan.

If you don't get the correct rotation view before you save you will have to edit the object script to get the correct rotation.

That is about as simply as I can explain it.

If you wanted just plain box frames then you could do it all horizontally as a roof using complex profile walls but the profile will be the "S" shape and the wall length would be the width of the frame.
Place one wall for each "S" shaped frame.
Then duplicating that profile you could cut out the sections along the profile leaving what will be the horizontal frames between the "S" shaped frames.
The length of this profile wall when you place it will be the width of the roof.
Finally create another "S" shaped profile for the glass or sheeting (again the wall length will be the roof width).
No need to save as an object in this case because you have built it all in place, but you might want to group it.

This might give you some ideas.
