Obtaining a Archicad 7 key. . .

Anonymous
Not applicable
I am wondering what the aftermarket value is for a Archicad 7 key is. My employer owns 8 and 8.1. I am looking for a vlaue to buy one of their old 7 keys.
I assume that they (the old 7 keys) are still activated and useable, although not upgradeable other than to go throught all the steps.
Thank you,
Reuben

Reuben,

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but don't bother with 7. I am about a year to 9 months behind the upgrade curve myself, nor do I completely buy into the whole upgrade cycle. BUT, since using 8.1 I REALLY struggle every time I have to go back to a 7 project. The level of production and ease and proficiency will pay for the upgrade price, honest. It's just not worth it.

See if you can work something out with your employer, a tithed paycheck or time for license trade. Get creative, talk him into working with you. It's easy to loose track of the fact that $4000+ is a big hit once you have it, but I haven't! Once you have your own copy you'll either be generating more money for your employer, or even better yourself! I understand the $ thing but don't undervalue your time. 8.1 is the better value.

Call your reseller to see what the current fees are for (a) license transfer and (b) upgrade [from 7 to 8] ... subtract that from retail value of a new key and make them an offer on a discount from the result. I've seen savings of $500 to $1000 in recent years depending on how anxious the seller is to sell.

Reuben,

I wouldn't suggest an Ebay purchase [risky business] but use it for "leverage" in your negotiations.
