Opening tool - custom shape

CarlM

Hi,

I have a custom profile that I use for creating holes in CLT-panels. I would like to use the opening tool instead to create these holes rather than a beam with a custom profile.
In plan view and on a slab I can paste the custom shape and use the magic wand with opening tool to acheive this, but I cannot save the shape as afavorite and thus not use it on walls.
I have tried a work around and use "Connect/Create opening from selection" however the shape of the custom profile is translated in to the nearest circular or rectangular opening (in this case a rectangle).

Has anyone been able to save a custom shape for the opening tool so that it can be used on walls?

Thanks!

Hello @CarlM ,

1 - Model a slab

2 - Name its ID "wallhole" (without "")

3 - Select this slab

4 - File/Objets and libraries/Save the selection as/Window

5 - Use you own wall hole

@CarlM Wallhole only ever creates a rectangular opening. Expanding on @Christophe Fortineau suggestion, you need to create the wallhole but add an infill that forms the hole profile.

Thanks for your quick reply Christophe!

It is a good suggestion that I had forgotten existed!
However the window shape is for some reason still translated to a rectangular opening...

DGSketcher - thank you for clarifying Christophe's suggestion!

I had over looked the importance of "WALLHOLE" as ID - makes all the difference!

@DGSketcher & @Christophe Fortineau - thank you both for excellent guidence and clarifications! Problem solved!!
