At me a question

The only way to stop the auto-rebuild is to convert the section to a drawing (which Graphisoft unfortunately calls "unlinking"). If it were possible to turn off the auto-rebuild I would probably keep my elevations live model views.

While in the section/elevation you want to "turn off auto rebuild" for, go to Display -> Sections/Elevations -> Unlink from Model (see attached pic).
If you want to "turn off auto rebuild" in the 3d window, go to Options -> Preferences -> Imaging & Calculations... and under 3D Window Rebuild Controls: unselect Auto-Rebuild 3D Window when activated.
Hope this helps.
