Survey: Favorite AC & PM Dual Monitor Setup (WinXP)

I just purchased a new laptop with 17" WXGA (1400 x 900) and a new external 19"LCD (1280 x 1024).

I was wondering how everybody that uses Dual monitors is "splitting" the screen area when using AC 8.1 & PM.

Jay,

An aside............would you mind sending or posting a screen shot of how you layout your AC palettes when using just the laptop? I've got a 17" similar one on the way

(tried to privately email you ahead of ordering but couldn't get through)

The 4780 Screen Shoot even as jpg was 270 kb over the limit (256 kb) so I had to trim it down.

jay,
i keep both ac & pm main screens open on my 21". then i have both navigators opened on my 15" notebook screen, ac on the right side pm on left. that way i can just click from pm to ac as needed. the main drawback is you have to move a ways to switch between viewsets.

Thanks Jay!

That look pretty much confirms what I had supposed would be the setup. I have a 17" fp monitor 1280x1024 that I will use in conjunction when at my desk but really looking forward to being mobile and just hadn't seen it yet.

In trying to setup AC with Dual Monitors it looks as though only the tool bars can be moved to the Monitor 2. This is no good for me since the larger 19" external LCD is my monitor 2. I was planning on having the whole 19" LCD for the floor plan window, but it does not move from the primary monitor.

jay,
you should be able to set it up that way. my external 21" lcd is where i keep my main plan workspace.
i imagine your sager has an ati video card, mine is a nvidia, so i do not know exactly how to set yours up. i have many options available in the advanced settings, n view where i select 'dualview'. also you can only move app to 2nd monitor when it is minimised. or using the n view option that adds a toolbar to top of window. see if there is a "hydrovision" setting, i think that is ati's n view tool for setting up multiple monitors. http://www.ati.com/companyinfo/glossary/hydravision/features.html
also, i do not run my main ac8 window maxed, i adjust it to line up w/ the right side of the info bar. that way i can run the bar up to the top of the screen.
just experiment for a while, you will get it. once all set up save before you close and it should open up the same.

If you extend your desktop, you should be able to switch between each display. I will attach two images that show how I like to separate my toolbars and views. I find this to be very efficient, especially when the displays are side by side.

I also keep all section/elevation windows on the left screen, but just marginally within the boundary of the floor plan window. This way I can just click on the floor plan to switch back to it. I also like to create detail windows that contain standard notes & room notes, 2D elevation information, electrical equipment, etc and have them appear on the right screen. This way (on a PC) I can drag & drop these elements straight onto the floor plan or section\elevation.

Each to their own, but this is what works for me....
