What i do is add an extra label, open the settings and delete the "extra" text.
I'm not sure if it is a bug or a feature (but has always been this way), you cannot delete the text without going into the the settings.

Another way without having to go the the label settings, is to place a space in the text box. This way you have a "empty leader".

i've noticed some of the guys here put a duplicate label over the top - aligning the text - but point the leader line in another direction . . . needless to say i'm trying to establish some kind of text/line based standard!

as Millard says a space will suffice. Regardless option click an "empty" label and you can place as many blank arrows as you like until you change the default
