I'm struggling to get the 1000mm height at landing to connect with the 900mm high railing along the stair. Note that i have offset the railing 140mm into the landing to allow for the 1m transition. I've attempted to model the rails seperately but this did not work, I've also atempted to manipulate the nodes but it didnt work. Any tips on how to achieve this would be appreciated

Without modelling it up and trying myself, make sure you are adjusting the connection for the correct railing - looks like top-rail in your case.
Try the direct connection.
Goose-neck connection will allow you to have vertical drops.
